Invasion

Last updated on 6th April 2024

Invasion is a game about trying to stay hopeful in a hopeless situation. I made it for a game jam, around the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Years later, the war is still going on. How can one talk about a game they’re proud of making, when the horrors it hints at are a reality for a dwindling population?

This game uses art assets by Kenny and the music of Tchaikovsky, which I recreated in the 8-bit style of the Famicom. I also used it as an opportunity to learn about pathfinding and NPC dialogue. The dialogue system isn’t complex, but one thing I took pains to implement is that it remembers and reuses the faces of the characters you meet.
